Wheat procurement in Punjab crosses 88 lakh tonnes

Wheat procurement in Punjab has crossed 88 lakh tonnes in the ongoing rabi marketing season.

An official spokesman said out of 88.72 lakh tonnes of wheat procured, various agencies procured 87.35 lakh tonnes while private traders bought 1.36 lakh tonnes.

Among government procurement agencies, Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, PSWC, PAIC and FCI bought 17.80 lakh tonnes, 18.17 lakh tonnes, 16.61 lakh tonnes, 12.55 lakh tonnes, 8.52 lakh tonnes and 13.66 lakh tonnes, respectively.

Spokesman said the Food and Civil Supplies department through its agencies made appeal to all the farmers to bring dry clean and fully matured wheat to the mandis.
