A 24-year-old youth was murdered in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district with police today arresting the deceased's wife and two of her relatives for the crime.

The youth, identified as Sunny, was found dead yesterday in a field near the house of his in-laws at Sui village. The body had multiple injuries, police said.

"We had taken three women, including the wife of the deceased, into custody," Udhampur SSP Benam Tosh said.

He said during interrogation, the trio confessed to have murdered Sunny by thrashing him with sticks.

The SSP said three sticks and one mobile phone were seized from the women, who claimed they had killed Sunny after he went to his in-laws' house in an inebriated state.

The SSP said the trio, identified as Neelu (wife of the deceased), Lashmi (sister-in-law) and Neeru (wife of Neelu's brother), were arrested today.
