Woman among four naxals held in Bijapur district

Four naxals, including a woman, were today arrested following an encounter between security forces and ultras in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said.

The cadres were nabbed from Mirtoor police station area when a joint team of security forces was out on a search operation, a local police official told PTI.

The composite squad of CRPF, Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), Special Task Force (STF) and district force had launched the combing operation towards Jappemarka, Kudmer and Madpal villages of Mirtoor, around 450 kms away from the capital Raipur, yesterday, he said.

When the patrolling team reached between Madpal and Tamodi today it came under fire from a group of naxals following which the encounter broke out, he said.
 

After the firing stopped, four rebels, including a woman, were arrested while they were trying to flee from the spot, he added.

Of them, the woman cadre was identified as Lakkhe (26) who was active as a member of military platoon no 13 under Bhairamgarh area committee of Maoists, the officer said, adding, that a muzzle loading gun was also recovered from her possession.

The remaining cadres were identified as Moti Vetti (26) -- a janmiltia commander, Bijju Telam (19) and Gutta Madkam (22) -- janmiltia members, he said.

They all were being interrogated, he added.
