Woman ends life over proposed land acquisition in MP?

The woman, identified as Sunia Bai (40), wife of Dhakka Yadav, took the extreme step last night as according to her husband she was disturbed over the proposed acquisition of their land for a power plant in the district, police said adding the matter is under investigation.
At the time of the incident, the woman was alone in her house and her husband and son had gone to their agriculture field for work, police said.
The neighbours reached the spot soon after she set herself ablaze and doused the flames.
Later, she was taken to Katni for treatment but she succumbed to her injuries enroute, police said.
Her body was handed over to her family members after the post-mortem.

Former Janata Dal(U) MLA Saroj Bachchan Nayak also reached the hospital soon after the incident and she, along with the deceased's husband, alleged to reporters that the woman took the extreme step as she was upset over the proposed acquisition of her land for a thermal power plant.
The farmers of the village were opposing land acquisition for the power plant and JD-U had recently organised a protest rally which was addressed by the party president Sharad Yadav on November 9.
Yadav had warned the administration not to take coercive steps for land acquisition, while addressing the rally.
Meanwhile, Katni SP Hingankar said police is probing the incident and has so far not registered any case in this regard. After getting autopsy report, appropriate action would be taken in the matter.
Katni Collector Ashok Singh said the police are probing the incident and if necessary the district administration will also conduct an inquiry into it.
A company is setting up a thermal power plant in Barhi tehsil of Katni district.
