A woman was arrested today for allegedly posing as joint collector and cheating people by promising them houses under 'Rajiv Gruhakalpa' scheme here, police said.
Hema alias Shailu alias Alekha Reddy collected amounts to the tune of several lakhs from around 50 persons, residing in different localities of the city, by promising that she will ensure houses for them under the housing scheme, they said.
When she failed to do so, a complaint in this connection was lodged on the basis of which police arrested her today, S R Nagar police station inspector G V Ramana Goud said.
He said many innocent people were "deceived" by Reddy and police expect more victims to come forward.
'Rajiv Gruhakalpa' is a housing programme launched for low income groups in urban areas.
