A middle-aged woman was rescued from a paddy field located by the rail tracks near Choudwar with police saying she was in deep mental shock and had bruises all over her body after she possibly fell off a train.

A senior police official cited doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital, where the woman is presently receiving treatment, that she had suffered multiple injuries and also appeared to be in deep mental shock.

Police said that the woman could be from one of the southern states but has not been identified since her rescue yesterday from the spot which lies about 20-km away from here.

The senior police official said it is suspected that the woman was pushed off a running train.

After it was alerted in this regard, a city-based orphanage rescued her with the help of police.

The woman is in the psychiatric ward of the said hospital, said DCP, Cuttack, Sanjib Arora.

"We are investigating the matter after registering a case," he said.

Initial inquiries suggest that the woman is probably married.
