YSRCP's Akhila Priya files nomination for Allagadda bypoll

Bhuma Akhila Priya today filed her nomination as the YSR Congress party candidate for the Allagadda Assembly seat in Kurnool district.

The bypoll, slated for November 8, is being held as the YSRCP candidate Bhuma Sobha Nagi Reddy was killed in a road accident days before the elections in May this year.

Sobha, however, emerged victorious in the election, the Election Commission declared the seat as vacant.

The YSRC has chosen Sobha's daughter Akhila Priya as its candidate for the by-election and accordingly she filed her nomination today. Priya's father Nagi Reddy is also an MLA of YSRC and is currently chairman of the Assembly Public Accounts Committee.

Since it has not fielded its candidate in the by-election in Nandigama Assembly constituency due to the death of TDP's MLA-elect T Prabhakar Rao, the YSRC wants the ruling party to reciprocate the gesture in keeping with the "tradition".

The YSRC formed a committee headed by former MP M V Mysura Reddy to request other parties not to field their candidates and make Priya's election unanimous.

However, the Kurnool district leaders of TDP, notably Gangula Prabhakar Reddy of Allagadda, are said to be asking their top leadership to field a candidate as people of the constituency are seething over the Bhuma family.

But, with TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and other top leaders camping in Visakhapatnam supervising the cyclone relief and rehabilitation works, no decision has been taken on contesting the Allagadda by-election.

The Congress, which fielded its candidate in the Nandigama bypoll much against the TDP's plea for a unanimous election, has also not yet announced its stand on Allagadda.

The last date for filing of nominations is October 21 and the bypoll, if required, will be held on November 8.
