I-League outfit Shillong Lajong FC today completed formalities of signing Zambian midfielder Isaac Chansa and Trinidad & Tobago striker Cornell Glen.
Lajong is the first Indian team for Chansa, a key member of Zambian team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012, while it is the second season for Glen with the North Eastern side.
The two would also play for Indian Super League (ISL) franchise NorthEast United FC, co-owned by Shillong Lajong FC and Bollywood star John Abraham, the club said in a statement.
The signing of Chansa came a month after NorthEast United signed Spanish World Cupper Joan Capdevilaas as their Marquee player and local lad Aibor Khongjee, an international.
Chansa, who last played for Zambian Premier League club side Zanaco FC last season, was part of the Zambian side that took on Japan in the Pre-World Cup 2014 International Friendly in USA.
He had earlier played for clubs like Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish Top Division, Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier Soccer League and Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye FC where he was transferred from Orlando Pirates in 2012 for a total deal value worth a little over USD 1 million.
Chansa whose natural position is centre midfield was quoted saying "I am happy and look forward to this new challenge. I will do my best to contribute to the team's success in any way I can and repay the faith shown in me by the team management."
2006 World Cupper and Trinidad & Tobago's fifth highest goal scorer, Cornell Glen, will also be playing for NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League.
Glenn, 2006 World Cupper and Trinidad & Tobago's fifth highest goal scorer, scored 13 goals for Shillong Lajong FC in the I-League season last year. He was the only international player from the I-League to have got a go ahead to play in the ISL, the team said.
"To get an Africa Cup of Nations winner and a World Cupper brings in a lot of experience and competitive edge to the team," John Abraham said.
Lajong Managing Director Larsing 'Ming' Sawyan said, "We are happy to have these accomplished and technically gifted players playing alongside our local boys."
Lajong FC earned a sixth position in the I-League table last season.
