Sensex, Nifty retreat; BHEL slumps over 6 percent

Reuters Market Eye - The BSE Sensex is down 0.33 percent, after the benchmark on Tuesday posted its biggest daily gain since June 6. The Nifty falls 0.22 percent.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd falls over 6 percent on weak earnings.

* Coal India Ltd falls 2.9 percent and Tata Power Ltd is down 2.9 percent after earnings missed some analysts' estimates.

Asian shares were subduded after gloomy data from China and Japan.
