Aptransco Plans Telecom Foray

Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco), is diversifying into the telecommunications sector through a joint venture company. It is looking at Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) and a few private telecom companies for a JV.

According to a press release, APTransco is building its own fibre optic transmission system by laying fibre optic cables on its transmission lines throughout the state. The ongoing work is in the final stage of commissioning.

Though this network will be primarily meant for internal communication needs to acquire data, monitor and control transmission network, APTransco proposes to lease out the facilities to other users.
