The BJP-Samata combine appears to have got a head-start in Bihar, largely due to an understanding between the two allies for all the 54 Lok Sabha seats in the state and with the two major anti-BJP formations failing to end their discord over seat-sharing. The BJP is contesting 32 seats and the Samata Party has fielded nominees for 21 seats, leaving the Hajipur seat for railway minister Ram Vilas Paswan. The two major anti-BJP groups "" the United Front and RJD-led Jan Morcha and its ally, the Congress, failed to resolve differences on seat adjustments and are pitted against their poll allies in a number of seats.
