Cea Nod For 2 Pvt Power Projects On Cards

Two private sector power projects worth over Rs 2,421 crore, including the 500 mw Rosa power project promoted by the Birla group, would soon be given techno-economic clearance (TEC) by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
While the 500 mw power project of the Birlas, to be set up at Jawaharpur in Uttar Pradesh, would cost about Rs 2,050 crore, the 106 mw power project at Narsingpur in Madhya Pradesh would be around Rs 371 crore.
"CEA would consider giving clearance to the coal-based 500 mw Rosa power project of the Birla group to be set up in Jawaharpur and the 106 mw diesel-based power project at Narsingpur promoted by the GBL power group," Central Electricity Authority chairman M I Beg told PTI.

Speaking of the 420 mw coal-based Korba West power project, he said the project which is promoted by Indira Power India had already gone through the standing project appraisal committee (SPAC) once, but was not cleared due to cost differences.
"The power project would have to go again to the SPAC as the CEA had sought some clarifications regarding the cost of the project," he said.
The 350 mw combined cycle gas plant (CCGT) to be set up at Madhya Pradesh by the Guna BSL group is also likely to be considered for TEC, Beg said.
The CEA, had recently accorded techno-economic clearance to three mega private power projects worth Rs 4,877.5 crore to generate 1,478 mw of electricity, Beg said.
On the reported delays in giving clearances to various power projects he said it was true that "there was some delay as the projects received by the CEA were incomplete."
"However, now any such (incomplete) reports would not be accepted until they are presented in a complete manner," he added.
The CEA had given its TEC clearance to the 578 mw Bina coal-based power project of the Birlas to be set up in Andhra Pradesh costing an investment of about Rs 1,817.5 crore.
In addition, if the 500 mw power project promoted by the same group is accorded TEC clearance, the Birlas would be producing a total 1,078 mw of power with an investment of Rs 3,867.5 crore.
