Centre Warned Against Move To Pull Down Govt

Ujjwal Singh BSCAL

Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi yesterday warned the Centre against any move to destabilise the BJP-BSP government in Uttar Pradesh and said that the move would boomerang and could lead to explosive situation.

Talking to newsmen here Joshi said the Centre would find it difficult to bring the situation under control if the government in Uttar Pradesh was brought down on flimsy grounds.

The BJP leader said Prime Minister I K Gujral was to attend a rally being organised by the Samajwadi Party that had been constantly hostile to the Mayawati government.

Prime minister attending the rally would send a wrong signal and create an impression that the UF government was putting pressure on the lawfully constituted government in Uttar Pradesh.

Joshi asked the Prime Minister to reconsider his decision to attend the rally being organised by the SP on Tuesday. He said the Prime Minister should act as in accordance with the democratic principles and respect for the constitution. The Gujral doctrine shall not apply to the neighbouring countries alone but also inside the country particularly in governments dealing with opposition parties, he added.

The BJP leader also asked the Centre to take positive steps to oppose Washingtons attempt to bring pressure in respect to patent law and claimed that the Americans had unauthorisedly taken away genes of flora and fauna worth billion dollars to improve their biological properties. He asked the Centre to frame laws to check illegal transshipment of genes.

He suggested that the country should take bold and determined stand like the CTBT in order to thwart the nefarious designs of the Americans to put pressure on the developing countries with regard to accept the patent law.

Referring to fodder scam, Joshi said Bihar governor A R Kidwai was unnecessary withholding his sanction to the CBI request to prosecute the chief minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, and others.
