Cesc May Log Rs 25cr Loss In Q1

Anuradha Himatsingka BSCAL

With CESC's quarterly results only two days away, trade circles are abuzz with talk of a further dip in the company's net loss.

Market analysts claim that the loss is likely to hover around Rs 40 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal, if the company decides against accounting for the fuel surcharge relief granted recently by state government.

However, the loss is expected to be approximately Rs 25 crore or so, if it incorporates the relief in the first quarter itself, the analyst added. "We feel that the CESC's net loss will be about Rs 25 crore if one takes into account the recent fuel surcharge hike", said a NSE broker.

Not only has CESC been granted the fuel surcharge hike by the sta-te power department, which is expected to have a positive impact on the bottomline, collection of fuel surcharge arrears for the last three years would improve its showing in the next quarter and subsequently, its overall performance for the fiscal 1998-99. It suffered a net loss of around Rs 125 crore for 1997-98.
