Dishnet To Focus On Broadband Services

Dishnet DSL, the Chennai-based Internet service provider (ISP) will focus on broadband services to increase its reach in India. The company has also planned a wide range of alliances for its broadband service offerings.
"Over the coming years, we will increasingly focus on the broadband service offerings and we have lined up some alliances with various service providers," said Eric Buerkler, chief executive officer, Dishnet DSL. He, however, did not specify the companies that Dishnet was tying up with to provide broadband services.
In addition, the company is also going to increase its focus on content, advertising, e-commerce and portals. At present, The company operates www.ddsl.net, a local language portal www.ambalam.net and a number of websites on news, education and Indian heritage.

As a part of its strategy to push the reach of Internet usage, the company is planning to build hub centres in various cities. These centres will provide users with access to Internet. Besides, these hub centres will also function as the content development centres for Dishnet websites.
The company has recently received permission to set up seven international gateways across the country. "We would soon be setting up seven international gateways in major cities including Chennai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahemedabad and Hyderabad ," Buerkler, said.
He said the upcoming gateways would have a bandwidth of 72 mbps as compared to the present 1.5 mbps, but refused to disclose the investment earmarked or the timeframe for setting up the gateways. The ISP currently has a subscriber base of 82,000. The company, is targeting 5,000 subscribers for the service by end-June.
