Duped!

I had the misfortune of joining Computer Point Ltd at A1/288, Safdarjung Enclave on February 24, 1997 to do the five-month Alpha Power course after paying a fee of Rs 5,600. The class began on March 6, after a two-week delay. Just after attending the first class, we (only one more student besides myself in the evening class) found the premises deserted hardly any staff, no faculty members or students. This went on for some days with assurances that the classes would resume soon. Finally, after many wasted trips we were shocked to find the shutters down.
Only towards the end of March, a notice from the corporate office (5, Camac Street, Calcutta) was put up saying that the institute had been closed down with effect from March 15, 1997 for one and a half months and certificates etc. would be given when the office opened i.e. the beginning of May. On contacting the office, the franchise manager said that one S K Jain, who looks after the Delhi office, would be coming from Calcutta shortly to sort out the problems.
Meanwhile, we found out that some key staff members had already resigned because their salaries had not been paid. Despite sending two registered letters to the Delhi and Calcutta offices, I got no reply regarding refund of money. After awaiting a response for more than a month, I finally filed a case under the Consumer Protection Act on April 26,1997.
