Ereb Threatens Action If Ntpc Seeks Dues

The EREB chairman's threat comes in the wake of the NTPC regulating its supply to the board, which has been defaulting on payments to the corporation. The total outstandings of the eastern region to NTPC amounts to Rs 1066.45 crore, equivalent to 6.2 months' payment.

National Thermal Power Corporation chairman Rajendra Singh told newspersons in New Delhi yesterday that this was the first time during his tenure that the corporation had received such a threat from an official. He had informed all the concerned authorities about the threat.

In his rejoinder to the EREB chairman, Singh has said: It cannot be expected that theNational Thermal Power Corporation will act as a funding agency for WBSEB and other SEBs of the eastern region. Driven to the wall, we are left with no alternative but to regulate generation.

 

He further said that we do not appreciate your statement that no constituent of EREB will pay the total fixed charges and, depending on your quantum of generation, fixed charges will be paid.

National Thermal Power Corporation cannot be expected to continue supply of power when the payments received from eastern region SEBs is only of the order of 35 per cent to 40 per cent and the question of non-payment of fixed changes is totally unjustified.
