Rajorshi Biswas BSCAL

Gestetner (India) Ltd, an office automation products manufacturer, has chalked out a long-term strategy to set up an extensive marketing network in the country by the turn of the century.

The company, which posted a 27 per cent rise in first quarter sales at Rs 18.51 crore, will open 10 sales-cum-service centres in the country by the end of 1997.

"We are likely to post a turnover of Rs 57 crore in the current year, but we need to increase our sales-cum-service centre network to at least 130, the companys chief executive Paul Wilkinson said.

We will open 10 centres in Bihar, Orissa and the North-East this year," he added. Gestetner is expanding its network to the rural markets for duplicators.

Currently, copy printers account for 74 per cent of the company's turnover.

In 1995, the Japanese $6-billion electronic giant Ricoh Company Ltd acquired full control of Gestetner Holdings Plc, UK, (GH Plc) -- the parent company with a 51 per cent stake in the Indian arm. Gestetner (India) plans to manufacture its latest 1045 series duplicators in Salt Lake, Calcutta.
