Govt Allows Free Import Of 40 Items On Negative List

The government similarly moved another 14 items from negative list of imports to special import licence (sil) list, a press note issued by the Directorate-general of Foreign Trade said here yesterday.

The commerce ministry has already issued the necessary notification to give effect to these decisions, it said.

The notification has been issued on the basis of exercise carried out by the government in respect of various representations of trade and industry, as well as, recommendations from administrative ministries and technical authorities.

This notification takes care of various representations which have been received stating that some items which were being allowed to be imported without a licence in the past have now been restricted.It also issued a public notice which allows import of one two-wheeler (motor cycle/scooter) in place of a car to Indian nationals or foreign nationals of Indian origin coming to India for permanent settlement.
