Icici Offers Mobile Banking Services

BSCAL

The ICICI has announced the launch of mobile banking services for its customers, using the wireless application protocol (WAP) technology.

Over the next few weeks, ICICI proposes to introduce a range of personal financial

services on WAP, including the personal banking services, on line information

tracking of utility bills and travel and ticketing information, states a statement issued by the ICICI.

The WAP solution offered includes enhanced security mechanisms as compared to short messaging system (SMS).

The services available will include online balance updates, details of the last five transactions and acceptance of requests for cheque-books and statements.

The new system would also enable an ICICI credit card holder to check outstanding balances, payment status, cash and credit limits and details of the last three transactions.

The statement said payment services to utilities were expected to be launched shortly.

The ICICI Infotech Services Ltd, has provided the technology, design and software solution for the wireless application protocol project as well as implementing it.

Mobile banking and e-commerce using the WAP technology allows secured on-line access of web-using mobile devices as opposed to using the short messaging service technology, which works on e-mail, thereby entailing a time lag.

The HDFC Bank is also to introduce wireless application protocol-based

mobile banking services, for which it would be tying up with other mobile service providers.

It already has a tie up for mobile banking with Orange and Airtel and was the first one to introduce this product in the country.
