Australian telecom major Telstra Corporation has entered into an agreement with Bangalore-based ITI Ltd to implement network management systems (NMS) for telecom networks in India.
The companies will start implementing a NMS for the Bangalore network of the department of telecommunications (DoT).
Chairman and managing director of ITI, SS Motial and Sanjay Modak, president (Asia South) of Telstra signed the agreement.
The pact covers joint design, planning, implementation and product support.
Work on the Bangalore NMS staion is expected to start very soon.
An NMS monitors and controls telephone traffic in a network and redirects traffic-flow to achieve optimal capacity utilisation in different exchanges in the network.
For instance, if an exchange in the path of a call is congested, the NMS - which uses artificial intelligence - will redirect the call through another exchange.
Widely used in advanced telecom networks the world over, such systems increase the call completion rate and provide better access to subscribers.
UMS, which map traffic and even out high traffic areas within a network, help in increasing revenues to service providers.
Telstra completed a NMS contract for the Department of Telecoms southern region with the system being based in Chennai.
Alongwith the implementation of the NMS for DoTs Bangalore network, ITI and Telstra intend to jointly prepare and submit proposals for implementation of local NMS for other centres.
