Mitsubishi To Close Uk Factory

Japans Mitsubishi Electric Corp said yesterday it would close its factory in Haddington, Scotland, in July with the loss of about 500 jobs. It said the closure of the site, which produces colour televisions, has been forced by a sharp drop in the price of television sets in recent years. Mitsubishi, which employs around 1,800 people at its other United Kingdom facilities, said severe overcapacity in world markets had made it impossible for the Haddington factory to operate profitably.
