Modest Rally

In a smart rally, speculatives registered modest gains yesterday on the Calcutta stock exchange with an allround buying spree from financial institutions and bull operators, coupled with bear short covering.

The market began on an easy note and gathered momentum, fresh interest was seen in virtually all the pivotals in the specified list, with bull operators expanding their holdings. The CSE-50 index closed at 108.55, gaining 1.47 points.

HLL and ACC counters spurted modestly to close at Rs 1200 and Rs 1135 respectively. Bata quoted higher at Rs 101.20, CESC at Rs 43.10, Grasim at Rs 365, L&T at Rs 218.50, Reliance at Rs 305.70, SBI new at Rs 323, Tata Tea at Rs 323, Telco at Rs 405 and Tisco at Rs 176.30.

 

Hindalco, ITC, Reckitt and Jaiprakash finished lower at Rs 925, Rs 476.50, Rs 263 and Rs 14.05 respectively. The cash list counters maintained the same trend, with ASN Coffee closing higher at Rs 41.50.
