More Mps

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
I agree with TCA Srinivasa Raghavans view that the number of members of Parliament (MPs) should be increased (Too Few MPs, February 13). However the number of MPs should not be increased on the basis of population, as this will only encourage politicians to increase their vote bank on the basis of caste and religion.
Before increasing the number of MPs, we should first divide the large states into smaller and more manageable units. We should have about 50 states. This will also make the Centre stronger.
Next, each state will send about 20 MPs each, regardless of area or population, like in the US. Thus no state can have undue influence on national matters.
