Nuclear fuel could be used only to power deep-space probes and not for any other experimental or commercial rockets, according to U R Rao, chairman of the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. The treaty on the uses of nuclear power sources for deep-space probes had already been cleared by a 61-member committee on the basis of consensus, Rao said.
