Need To Develop Manpower In Food Sector

BSCAL

Ray told the members of the consultative committee of the ministry that the manpower requirement of this sector is estimated to go up three-fold in four years.

Thus, he said, there is an urgent need to develop human resources in the food processing sector.

There are now only a few institutions, besides the Central Food technological Research Institute, Mysore, which offer courses on food science and technology.

The members of Parliament present at the meeting said the manpower should be developed in rural areas where material for food processing is generated.

They also expressed the view that processing should be done in places where production is low.

They also pointed out that the possibility of increased exports of canned fish and other products should be explored and effort should be made to develop appropriate technology for this purpose.
