Net Inflows Of Fiis Dip To $ 30.3m

Aditya Chatterjee BSCAL

Net investments by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) during this calendar year stood at $119.6 million (Rs 428.7 crore) till February 12.

While net investments in January amounted to $89.3 million (Rs 320.1 crore), investments during the first 12 days this month decelerated sharply to $30.3 million (Rs 108.6 crore).

This reinforces marketmens belief that FII inflows could see a downtrend as the overseas investors would be unwilling to pump in money before the Budget.

Gross purchases by FIIs during the first 12 days of this month stood at Rs 286 crore compared with Rs 1,301.1 crore in January; gross sales up to February 12 stood at Rs 177.4 crore while it was Rs 981 crore in the previous month. The cumulative net investment figure by FIIs till January was $7327.3 million.

The corresponding figures during January 1996 showed gross FII purchases at Rs 1,186.4 crore, gross sales at Rs 189 crore and a net investment figure of Rs 997.4 crore or $321.7 crore.
