Ocm To Set Up Rs 22cr Silk Unit At Khasa

Bhim Rathke, managing director of the OCM Woollen Mills, said the proposed Khasa silk plant, being set up with Japanese collaboration, would begin production by 1998.
According to him, OCM has drawn up a Rs 250-crore modernisation and expansion plan, which is expected to be completed by 1997-98. This will ensure the rolling out of 35,000 meters worsted fabric every day.
The capacity will be further expanded to 50,000 meters per day by 2000, he said. The company is now set to enter the international market, Rathke said.

The company's turnover is expected to touch Rs 500 crore by 2000 of which the export component will be 20 per cent.
OCM is purchasing machinery from France, Germany, Switzerland, UK and Italy for its new plant. It has already installed 29 hi-tech machines from France for its preparatory spinning section.
With 22 zinser ring frames imported from Germany, the total ring frame capacity will be enhanced from the present 12,000 spindles to 25,000 spindles.
The expansion plan includes import of another 12,000 spindles. The new plant is expected to increase production capacity of premium suitings by 4 times. At present, OCM is producing wool fancy material, crepe, flannels, gaberdine, cool wool, cavalry twills, tweeds and jacquard coat material.
The company is one of the main suppliers of woollens to the armed forces and meets 80 per cent of their total requirement.
