Pocket Device Soon To Record Patients History

BSCAL

Galaxy Communication, promoters of health portal galaxyof-health.com, will launch a pocket medical information device that can be used for recording a patient's medical history. The cost of the device will vary from Rs 350 for a low-end version (with less memory) to Rs 2,200 for a high-end version (with memory up to 8 mbps). "We have already placed an order for importing 1 million such devices from a company in US," said Vikram Sharma, managing director of Galaxy Communications. He, however, refused to divulge the name of the US company. The device, which will be sold only through galaxyofhealth.com, is a chip that can be inserted into a personal computer for reading entire medical records of the person carrying it. However, for encoding the data on the chip, a person has to approach the company. Speaking at a press conference to Business Standard, Sharma said the company has tied up with LG Electronics to co-brand the website for the B2C health portal. "We will market the LG Electronics range of products from our portal at a commission of 3-5 per cent on each product. While LG Electronics has paid Rs 10 lakh for an annual advertisement contract, we are in talks with other leading pharma companies, like Glaxo and Jagsonpal, to place their advertisements on the site."
