Prices Recover

A weak start followed by a smart recovery in share prices characterised trading on the Calcutta stock exchange (CSE) yesterday. The Reliance Industries scrip spurted in the wake of prospects of a bonus issue, dragging virtually all major shares along.
The 50-share CSE index touched a high of 115.88 points and a low of 114.90 points before closing at 115.65 points gaining 0.21 points. The turnover stood at Rs 819.35 crore and the remained steady at the close. There was, however, profit-taking at higher levels, as a result brokers lost part of the days gains.
The RIL scrip topped the securities list in volumes followed by SBI and ITC. Tisco rallied to a new high and fell back to close at Rs 196.60. RIL settled at Rs 342.10 with traded turnover touching Rs 240.66 crore. SBI stood at Rs 325.70, the traded turnover touching Rs 205.32 crore at the close. Among others ACC finished at Rs 1,211, Telco at Rs 438, Icici at Rs 81.10, Cesc at Rs 39.50, L&T at Rs 242 and IPCL at Rs 126. The gainers were Shree Synthetics, RIL, India Steamship and Ispat Industries.
