Raytheon To Test New Radar Communication Mode

BSCAL

The package will ensure compatibility of the system with the future air navigation system (FANS) planned to be installed all over the country in the next 10 years. Termed the automatic dependence surveillance (ADS), the package will relieve controllers of some routine work.

Raytheon has been criticised for installing the radar and not commissioning it for months together.

Among the skeletons that tumbled out in the wake of the Charki Dadri crash was the multicrore contract to instal sophisticated radars at Delhi and Bombay airports.

Raytheon technical director Mohammed Enein said at the Asian Airports conference here that the new package will go on test at Delhi to test the efficacy of the new system in the future FANS environment.

The system will improve accuracy of tracking aircraft Enein said.

The company has denied reports that there were technical glitches that led to delays in commissioning of the radar, without specifying why the radar had not been made operational. Sources at the conference said one of the reasons for the delay was that the Airports Authority of India did not have sufficient trained personnel to handle the new system.
