Scrips Make Further Gains

The National Stock Exchange index closed yesterday at 968.85 points as against the previous close of 966.1 gaining 2.75 points over Tuesdays close. The index opened at 963.95 points, touched a high of 970.5 and a low of 956.75 before closing at 968.85.
The market was anticipating a poor a railway budget, but it turned out to be better than expected. Thus, though the market opened weak it picked up towards the close, said a broker.

Informed sources said that in the days to come the market would prop up as people were taking the railway budget as a indication of how the Union Budget is going to be. The General Budget will be presented tomorrow.
The market opened sedately and the pivotals
witnessed marginal fluctuations over the previous close. The total traded value stood at Rs 1137.94
crore and the traded quantity stood at 4.7 crore. The number of trades recorded on the exchange went up to 118206. ITC once hogged the limelight topping
the chart of highest traded scrip. The top 25 securities which were traded on the exchange were: ITC
(Rs 373.84 crore), State Bank of India (Rs 260.67 crore), Reliance Industries (Rs 240.8 crore), Tisco (Rs 57.27 crore), ACC Limited (Rs 44.75 crore), BSES Limited (Rs 27.14 crore), Telco Limited (Rs 26.31 crore), L&T (Rs 18.58 crore), MTNL (Rs 13.67 crore), Gujarat Ambuja Cement (Rs 7.19 crore), Bajaj Auto Limited (Rs 7 crore), HPCL (6.02 crore). Oriental Bank of Commerce (Rs 2.72 crore), BHEL (Rs 2.39 crore), IDBI (Rs 1.97 crore), Brooke Bond Lipton Limited (1.96 crore), IPCL (1.91 crore), Cochin Refineries Limited (1.68 crore), Colgate Palmolive (Rs 1.59 crore), ICICI Limited (Rs 1.36 crore), Tata Chemicals Limited (Rs 1.32 crore), HDFC Limited (Rs 1.17 crore), Grasim Industries Limited (Rs 0.94 crore), Steel Authority of India Limited (Rs 0.86 crore).
The top five gainers were: Ponni Sugars & Chemicals, Sathavahana Ispat, Nova Electro-
magnetics, Gujarat Borosil, Besta Vision Electronics, where the top five losers are: India Polyfibers, UB Petroproducts, Tainwala Chemical, Grapco Mining, Anhant Threads.
