Stray Animals

The suggestion of the Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to feed wild animals with stray dogs, and to resume the barbarous act of electrocution, is condemnable. "Welfare of Stray Dogs" claims that while the government gives it only Rs 2 lakh per year, it saves over Rs 80 lakh annually, after the killings have been discontinued. If this is true, why can't the government pay the animal welfare organisations the amount of Rs 80 lakh, which will go a long way in controlling the population of stray dogs?
BMC is the richest Indian municipality. It is flush with funds. Despite the expropriatory rate of taxes collected, the quality of services rendered by it leaves much to be desired. The corporation is certainly overpopulated with a lethargic, militant and unaccountable workforce. Mismanagement of its finances results in criminal waste of the taxpayers' money.
