Tarun Das To Retain Cii Post

Confederation of Indian Industry director-general Tarun Das will continue to hold office even after being elected chairman of Associated Cement Companies.
"He will continue as DG because members have requested him to continue," CII president Arun Bharat Ram told Business Standard here.
Das has been named non-executive chairman of ACC and is responsible for providing guidance to the company. He will not be managing its day-to-day business.

Putting an end to speculation in industry circles, Bharat Ram categorically said, "Mr Das is not moving to Mumbai and he is very much the DG of CII, based in Delhi."
Das would be devoting the same amount of time to the chamber's affairs as he used to do in the past, Bharat Ram added.
CII members had requested Das to continue as DG of the chamber when he decided to retire in 1998. Das was requested to continue as DG to help take the chamber into the new millennium.
On the possibility of a merger of the three national chambers _ CII, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry _ into one apex body for better coordination, Bharat Ram said there was no such proposal.
"However, we do take up issues of common interest together, but there are some issues on which we do not have agreement," he added.
