Tyre Makers Call For Duty Cut

BSCAL

The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) has called for a cut in the customs duty for nylon tyre cord fabric from 52 per cent to 32 per cent. ATMA said nylon tyre cord fabric forms an important raw material in the production of tyres and its cost forms 32 per cent of the total production cost of tyres. In the 1996 budget, the customs duty on nylon yarn was brought down to 30 per cent from 45 per cent, retaining the previous duty level of 50 per cent on fabric.
