BSCAL

The United National Development Programme (UNDP) has offered a grant assistance of $4 million (over Rs 17 crore) for renewable energy supply to select tribal villages in India.

An agreement to this effect was signed by the department of economic affairs, the ministry of non-conventional energy sources and the UNDP on August 11.

The aid has been provided under the UNDP\government of India country cooperation framework to cover the 1997_2001 period. It would help implementation of the government's rural energy supply programme. It will cover select tribal villages of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, besides those in the North Eastern states and desert regions of Rajasthan, Ladakh and Lahaul-Spiti.
