Verifone, the US-based transaction automation company, is shifting its focus to India by setting up its largest software developing centre in Bangalore.

A shortage of software personnel is being witnessed worldwide and the best cost-efficient talent is available here in India, the country head of the $385 million company, Giri Khatod said.

With an investment of over $5 million, this captive software centre will feed Verifone facilities worldwide, Khatod said adding that most of Verifones critical software development would be done at Bangalore.

This software facility, slated to become operational from January end, will take up sub-contracted jobs from other Verifone offices around the world.

A 64kbps circuit will link the facility to Singapore and to the companys headquarters in California.

Further elaborating on the reasons for setting up this facility in the country, Khatod said Verifone sought to tap Indias wealth of talent, especially in client-server models management.

Verifone also recently set up a 100 per cent subsidiary to market its transaction automation (TA) solutions in the country, which include debit cards, credit cards, smart cards and systems and design support for electronic capture of data at the point of transaction. The company is now planning to expand the market for its TA solutions in the country.
