Azealots.com, India's first Techies-for-Techies forum, with the intent of combining fun and technology was recently opened to the international audience by Shankaralinge Gowda, IT&BT Secretary, government of Karnataka here. The forum which aims to bring together software professionals on a common platform, initiated the first event, 'Back to Basics' on the 18th April 05.

The event attracted participation from techies all over the country and received responses from various countries like Czechoslovakia, US and UK even though the 'Back-to-Basics' event was restricted to software professionals in India.

Shankarlinge Gowda said "The kind of regimentation in our education system leaves out fun. Out in the western world, the focus is more on fun and the outcome is enhanced creativity. Techies based there have no business restrictions and as a result, a whole lot of IP and R& D products originate from there. Creative forums like Azealots.com can help achieve such great things here.

With over 2,08,007 registrations in ten weeks and the global launch today, it is bound to make a difference. "I suggest that the forum gets extended to the student community also and starts suggesting ideas to various governments on how to deal with the day to day problems," he added.

Congratulating the swift growth of this small fun initiative, Mr. Rajeev Mody CEO, Sasken, said "Azealots.com has networked and built a society of software engineers. Members create solutions and learn from each other. That's how knowledge enrichment happens and slowly we develop competitive advantage over others."

"IT industry is always short of people and one of the reasons for this globally is that there's a perception that techies don't have fun. For example, China is growing rapidly and trying to catch up with India, but is struggling to attract the best graduates to IT. It is quite easy to understand that the more fun you have in your career, you tend to be more productive and valuable. I am sure that programs like azealots.com will encourage the best people to get into the IT industry will and take it forward to reach our goal of being the best IT nation of the world", said Dr Sridhar Mitta, Managing Director " e4e India.

Sharing their experiences over the ten-week long contest hosted on azealots.com, the participants expressed a common feeling of fun, challenge and euphoria.

The ceremony was followed by two-thread discussions on the future of azealots. The first one, revolving around the Corporate Social Responsibility aspect and the second one on how to make it even more interesting and fun in the days to come.
