Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd - Tamil Nadu circle is planning to launch its wireless Internet service in the state by October or November.
Speaking to Business Standard, R Ganesan, principal general manager, BSNL, said that as part of the first phase, orders had been placed to procure 30 terminals for the proposed WiMax connection. These terminals will be procured from foreign vendors. Each terminal will cover a radius of 15 km. Around 22 locations, mostly rural parts of the state, will be serviced.
“The terminals are expected to arrive in August and we will start offering the service from October or November,” said Ganesan.
Under Phase II, the company would procure another 250-300 terminals.
Besides, to increase the Internet broadband connection in the state, the company would enhance the capacity by another 200,000 by September from the present 240,000 connections and focus on SMEs and other business institutions.
