Google India has launched a new mobile campaign in Tamil Nadu called “Internet Bus” to create awareness among the rural people on the Internet. The mobile bus is designed to provide an Internet experience to the people and will cover 15 towns in Tamil Nadu in the next 45 days, said Prasad Ram, Head of Google R&D, India
He told reporters that company would focus on educating people how to use internet for information, communication, entertainment and education.
The Internet Bus will have content in English and Tamil to give users an understanding of how the Internet can be used. In addition to that it would educate people on search engine, email, social networking and online maps.
The message will be shared through interesting videos and will showcase how people are using the Internet.
Ram added, 19 per cent of the total content on the web in India was in Tamil next to Hindi. Out of the 45 million users in the counter interest among Tamilians is high especially on creating content, blog and also capture local content.
He further said Google would consider sharing some of the feedback from the campaign with the state government.
Google is also consider launching the mobile campaign to other states.
