Over 6,000 landlines and a number of leased lines of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) went out of service in Mumbai after eight primary cables were damaged at the Andheri-Kurla Road and the Western Express Highway junction. All the lines are expected to be restored in the next four-five days.

According to a release issued by MTNL, the cables were damaged due to the road-digging work done by Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). The lines fall under the ambit of the Darpan Telephone Exchange, the release added.

The areas affected were Andheri-Kurla Road, Old Nagardas Road, Azad Road, Parsi Panchayat Road, Western Express Highway (western footpath), Sahar Road, Vijay Nagar, Jeevan Vikas Kendra, Vishal Hall and Moonlight Been Apartments.
