SmartPlay's 70-seat design centre in Hyderabad

SmartPlay Technologies, a US-based provider of digital, analog, wireless software system design services, opened its 70-seater design centre in Hyderabad on Thursday, with plans to grow the headcount here by 100 per cent in the coming year.

“The Hyderabad design centre will cater to our in-house projects on mobile software, mobile testing and infrastructure. We are also looking at developing Android-based applications and frameworks,” Pradeep Vajram, chief executive officer of SmartPlay, told mediapersons here.

SmartPlay, founded in 2008, currently has design centres at San Jose, San Diego and Austin in the US, and at Bangalore and Greater Noida in India, employing 650 professional – about 200 in mobile technology and the remaining in semiconductor design.

 

Vajram said the company, at present, catered to close to 30 clients in the US, India Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China. “We are planning to expand into the European market in the first quarter of the 2012 calendar,” he said.

According to Vajram, whose maiden venture – chip design company Spike Technologies – was acquired by Qualcomm in 2004 for $20 million (around Rs 100 crore), the global chipset design services market is currently pegged at $4 billion.

“With growing business, especially in semiconductor and mobility space, we expect to garner $100 million in revenues in the next three years, from the current $20 million,” he said.
