| Tensilica, a California-based optimised application specific processor solutions provider, on Thursday announced it will invest $40 million in its design centre, set up in Pune in December 2004, over the next five years. |
| Chris Rowen, president and CEO of Tensilica said that the design centre in India played a key role in the company's core R&D work. "India is very important to us because of the wealth of talent that is available here and we are going to invest heavily in India in key R&D activities," Rowen added. |
| Subodh Shukla, who heads Tensilica India said that the company was going to recruit 50 engineers in the present year as a commitment to its growth strategy. |
| The Indian design centre was presently undertaking a significant portion of Tensilica's R&D activity. Last year, one-third of the company's R&D work was done here. |
| The design centre focusses on the development of integrated development environment (IDE) for multi-processor systems, product testing and applications engineering. |
| Rowen said Tensilica's processors were key components in system-on-chip (SOC) designs among the world's top electronics companies including Cisco Systems, LG Electronics, Olympus and Seiko Epson among others. |
