Twitter on Thursday launched a self-service advertising platform to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in India.

Twitter has over 100,000 advertisers including SMBs in 200 countries.

"Small and medium-sized businesses face the most challenges and are least resourced to promote the good work they do," says Emily Huo, SMB lead for Asia Pacific at Twitter in a statement. "With the expansion of the Twitter self-service ads platform, we are excited to help SMBs level the playing field with digital advertising to increase their sales."

Twitter allows users to set their own budgets by registering their credit cards and reach out to more people by targeting a specific audience. Advertisers can choose the markets, countries, regions, metro areas or postal codes that are relevant to their business.

India has 51 million small businesses and is expected to see 11,500 startups by 2020, Twitter cited reports by Market researcher Zinnov and consultancy KPMG respectively.
