In the scorching heat of Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill called right at the toss and chose to bowl first against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Narendra Modi Stadium today.

“It is very hot,” said Gill with a wry smile, pointing to the sweltering afternoon sun that had already started to take a toll. “The wicket looks very good. If you don’t keep much grass, it cracks up. So bowling first makes sense.” Gujarat fielded an unchanged side, hoping for another collective performance while keeping an eye on Kagiso Rabada’s return in “about 10 days”.
On the other side, Delhi skipper Axar Patel looked visibly disappointed. “I also wanted to field,” he admitted. “I was confused, honestly — it’s that hot. The bowlers might get tired under the sun.” Despite that, Axar remained upbeat, emphasising process over panic. “We’ve been talking about improvements. Everyone has clear roles and we’ve had a positive atmosphere in the dressing room.”
While Delhi made some key shuffles, Axar confirmed Jake Fraser-McGurk would sit this one out. The playing XI saw Karun Nair and KL Rahul at the top, with Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav leading the bowling attack. Gujarat, meanwhile, retained their balance with Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan up top, and Rashid Khan leading the spin department.
Both teams announced their list of Impact Substitutes:
