IPL 2026: Vikram Solanki admits GT misread conditions in final vs RCB

Gujarat Titans' Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki admitted that they "miscalculated" an appropriate score on the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch, leading to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final. The Titans settled for an under-par 155 for eight, and RCB scaled down the target in 18 overs to lift back-to-back IPL titles here on Sunday night. "I think we probably just made a slight miscalculation actually of what score was appropriate on that pitch. I don't think it was a 200-plus pitch," said Solanki in the post-match press conference. "If we had got somewhere around that 180 mark, I think that would have been a challenging total for them to chase," he added. Solanki rued that GT's total of 155 for eight in the IPL final was at least 25 runs short of a defendable target. "I think we were probably 20-25 runs short, but it was exceptional to see the fight and the hunger the guys showed to bring that game to close to the finish. "We had

Gujarat Titans players, staff evacuated after short circuit in team bus

In a safety scare for the Gujarat Titans players and support staff, they had to be evacuated from the team bus after a short circuit caused a breakdown of the vehicle while it was ferrying them back to their hotel after the IPL final loss to Royal Challenge Bengaluru here. PTI has learned that the team members, who are all safe and unhurt despite smoke spreading inside the bus, waited on the road for a short while before another bus was arranged to take them to the hotel. The incident added to a miserable night for GT as they had earlier gone down to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final by five wickets here on Sunday. It was also a continuation of their tough travel itinerary as GT had to travel from Dharamsala to Mullanpur on May 27 to play the Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals on May 29. However, their scheduled departure to Ahmedabad on May 30 was inordinately delayed because of inclement weather in Mullanpur. GT reached their home base late on Saturday evening. Was

IPL 2026: Kumar Sangakkara backs Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for India call-up

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's performance against world class bowlers in the IPL is an indicator that he is more than ready to play for India, said Sri Lankan legend and Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara. The 15-year-old had a phenomenal first full season in the IPL as he aggregated 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.31. He could well end up as the leading run getter of the tournament if Shubman Gill or Sai Sudharsan don't surpass him in the final on Sunday. Having taken the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins to the cleaners over the course of the two month long competition, Sooryavanshi has reinforced the popular belief that he is rarest of rare who would serve India for long. After endorsements from former cricketers including the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, Sangakkara too indicated that the left-hander is ready for the highest level. "You never know if anyone's ready until they play. And with everything Vaibhav's shown against some of the best ...

IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans thrive by avoiding occasion pressure, says Gill

A ton-up Shubman Gill on Friday said not playing to the occasion brings out the best in Gujarat Titans as his side qualified for the final of IPL 2026 with a commanding seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals here. Gill smacked 104 off 53 balls with 15 fours and three sixes to eclipse the first-innings heroics of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made a calculated 96, to power Gujarat Titans' victory in the Qualifier 2 here. "(The) feeling is really good. But (a) quick turnaround so tomorrow (Saturday) we'll just rest and recover and then go there and assess conditions," Gill told the broadcaster after the match here. "If you don't play the occasion it brings the best out of us and that's what we spoke about. Let's take the occasion out and play some good cricket. Whether we win or lose, we should play good cricket," he said while revealing GT's mantra. The IPL final this year will be a repeat of the Qualifier 1 in which defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru had beaten Gujarat Tit
