The 97th Academy Awards saw Anora emerge as the biggest winner of the night, claiming five prestigious trophies, including Best Picture, Best Editing, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress. Distributed by Neon, the film secured more awards than any other contender.
Director Sean Baker set a new record by becoming the first individual to win four Oscars for a single film. The ceremony, broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on ABC, was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, with Nick Offerman among the presenters.
This year’s Oscars marked several historic moments. The Brutalist star Adrien Brody became the first actor to win Best Actor twice in two nominations, defeating Timothée Chalamet, who was nominated for A Complete Unknown.
Another milestone was achieved in costume design, as Paul Tazewell became the first Black man to win an Oscar in the category for his work on Wicked. The film’s lead actresses, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, opened the ceremony with a medley of songs inspired by Oz.
Leading the nominations this year was Netflix’s genre-blending musical crime drama Emilia Pérez, with 13 nods. Following closely are Wicked, and The Brutalist, featuring Adrien Brody as a Holocaust survivor and architect, each securing 10 nominations.
Here is the complete list of this year’s nominees, with winners highlighted in bold as they are announced:
