US aims to improve connectivity, advance trade integration for developing South Asia: Nisha Biswal

Singapore, Sep 02 (ANI): Speaking during the 'Indian Ocean Conference 2016' in Singapore, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal pointed out that Indian Ocean served as an important trade route and development in South Asia was needed to for opportunities to flow through. She said that a system that ensures regional connectivity across Indian Ocean particularly focusing South Asia was needed and United States was helping in doing that. Biswal added that the US understands the need for trans-connectivity and is emphasising on that because it would encourage opportunities for both US and other countries. She said that much of the trade within South Asia could be diversified if infrastructure is developed in South Asia. Biswal said that nearly Rs. 2.5 trillion has been assigned by the World Bank, which would be used for developing transportation, energy, electricity and critical services.
