Mainstream parties' communal politics root cause of all issues: Kejriwal

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said Hindu-Muslim politics practised by mainstream parties for the last 75 years is the root cause of all problems in the country. Speaking at the launch of the party's student wing -- the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) -- here, the former Delhi chief minister accused the current BJP dispensation of destroying the city's education system. "Our country is grappling with a lot of problems. People do not have food or access to education. Why is this happening? It is because parties like the BJP, the Congress and others have only indulged in politics in the last 75 years," he said. "These parties are only teaching our school children about Hindu-Muslim... This is the root cause of problems in our country," he said. Talking about the ASAP, he said student cultural groups will be formed in colleges across the country under the forum. BJP govt in Delhi insulted Ambedkar's legacy, failed Dalit students: AAP

AAP's Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday accused the BJP-led Delhi government of showing "utter disregard" for the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar and failing to deliver on key promises made to Dalit students. Bharadwaj alleged the BJP government had removed portraits of Ambedkar from prominent spots in government offices -- a practice that was institutionalised during the AAP government under former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, an official statement of AAP said. There was no immediate response available from the BJP on AAP's charges. Bharadwaj said, "Earlier, it was mandatory for all government offices, including those of ministers and the chief minister -- to have a portrait of Babasaheb Ambedkar in the background. This ensured his constant presence in official photographs. Now, these portraits have been relegated to obscure corners, which is deeply disrespectful," Bharadwaj said. He further accused the BJP of failing to fulfil multiple promises made to Scheduled Caste (SC)

Delhi court dismisses defamation case against AAP's Atishi, Sanjay Singh

A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed a criminal defamation complaint filed by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit against former chief minister Atishi and AAP MP Sanjay Singh, underscoring their "legitimate exercise of fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression". Additional chief judicial magistrate Paras Dalal refused to take cognisance of Dikshit's complaint and said the averments and contentions labelled defamatory by Dikshit were "not imputation" but "political aspirations and assertions". The order said the statements of the AAP politicians urged the public to make a "wise decision of their precious vote" and couldn't be termed as imputations "worthy of scrutiny" under defamation laws. "This court fails to find that the necessary ingredients of criminal defamation are prima facie not made out. The press conference and averments made by the respondents is nothing more than political discourse amongst rival and competing parties," it said. The statements were observed to h

AAP announces protests across UP over liquor stores offering 'free alcohol'

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said it will hold statewide protests across Uttar Pradesh on March 29 over reports of liquor stores in the state offering "free alcohol'. Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of hypocrisy, claiming that while the Delhi government faced allegations and central agency probes over its excise policy, no one was questioning the UP government over such deals being offered by liquor stores. The UP government is yet to react to AAP's allegations. Reportedly, liquor stores across many cities in the state are offering huge discounts and deals to clear out the stocks before a new excise policy comes into effect in the state on April 1. The store owners have been claiming that they will suffer huge losses if they don't clear the old stock before the date. "In Delhi, our government stopped such practices, yet we were targeted with allegations and subjected to ED and CBI inquiries. But in UP, the BJP is providing free
