BJP alleges 'misuse' of Punjab administration in Delhi polls; CM hits back

BJP candidate from the New Delhi seat in the upcoming Assembly polls in the capital, Parvesh Verma, accused his rival Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday of "misusing" the official machinery of the AAP-ruled Punjab in the constituency. Reacting to the allegation, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Verma has "insulted" Punjabis and demanded an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. At a press conference here, Verma claimed that fearing an "imminent" defeat from the seat, Kejriwal is getting Chinese CCTV cameras installed in the constituency's slums just for the show with the help of the Punjab government. He further claimed that the Chinese CCTV cameras, installed in a "hurried manner", pose a security threat. "Punjab government's teachers and employees are being brought to Delhi for election campaigning. These individuals are masquerading as AAP workers," Verma said. He claimed that two teachers hailing from Amritsar were arrested by the police here. "Thousands of vehicles with

Haryana CM urges Delhi voters to drive away AAP to farther side of Yamuna

Campaigning for the BJP here, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Tuesday slammed the AAP for "failing" to deliver on its poll promises and asked people to drive away the Arvind Kejriwal-led party to the other bank of the Yamuna. Saini was addressing a public meeting at Rajinder Nagar, a coaching hub in Central Delhi which was in the eye of the storm last year after three civil services aspirants died in the flooded basement of an institute. Attacking the AAP government at the meeting, Saini alleged that it has failed to deliver on its promises. He also held rallies in support of BJP candidates Rajkumar Anand in Patel Nagar and Rekha Gupta in Shalimar Bagh later in the day. "Kejriwal had promised that his government would help children of poor families become doctors and engineers. Instead, he opened liquor shops in every lane. "He also promised clean water, but people are struggling with dirty water... Kejriwal promised to make Delhi like Paris, but the roads of the city ...

BJP's manifesto 'dangerous', will stop free education in schools: Kejriwal

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday described the BJP's election manifesto as "dangerous for the country". He alleged that the party plans to shut free education in government schools and dismantle free health services, including the Mohalla Clinics, if voted to power. In a press conference, Kejriwal accused the BJP of revealing its "true intentions" in the manifesto and warned voters against supporting the party. "If the BJP comes to power, they will stop free education, end free health facilities and make it difficult for the poor to survive in Delhi. This is a direct attack on the welfare of the common man," he said. Kejriwal further appealed to people not to vote for the BJP, claiming that their policies would jeopardise the future of the country and adversely impact the lives of Delhi's poor. "The BJP's Sankalp Patra is a blueprint for closing government schools and Mohalla Clinics, which have been a lifeline for many," he added. The BJP is yet to respond

Delhi HC to hear ED plea against Arvind Kejriwal's bail on March 21

The Delhi High Court on Friday set March 21 to hear the enforcement directorate's plea against the bail granted to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy-linked money laundering case. Justice Vikas Mahajan adjourned Friday's hearing on the request of the enforcement directorate's (ED) counsel. The senior counsel representing Kejriwal opposed the request for adjournment saying ED repeatedly took dates in the past several months. He urged the court to hear the matter and grant bail to Kejriwal saying other accused were granted bail in the money laundering case. "There is an impending election. Why should this sword be hanging over him? If bail is well given to all 15 accused, why should it be kept pending for him?" asked Kejriwal's counsel. The ED counsel said no prejudice was caused to Kejriwal on account of the adjournments as he was already on interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in the matter. "I will set it down for hearing.. No prejudice is caused to

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday filed his nomination from New Delhi constituency for the upcoming assembly elections and urged people to vote based on work and not "abuses". Before filing his nomination papers, Kejriwal, accompanied by his wife Sunita, offered prayers at Hanuman and Valmiki temples. "AAP will form the government with full majority," he told reporters. "I want to request the people of Delhi to vote based on work and not abuses," he said. Attacking the BJP, Kejriwal said the party has no vision, no chief ministerial face and no narrative. "They are not telling what work they will do in the next five years. AAP changes candidates for Narela, Hari Nagar days ahead of Delhi polls

With just weeks to go for the Delhi assembly polls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday changed its candidates for Hari Nagar and Narela constituencies. The party replaced the outgoing Hari Nagar MLA Rajkumari Dhillon, who was fielded again by the party from the seat, with Surinder Setia. Dinesh Bharadwaj, fielded from Narela, was replaced by Sharad Chauhan. The changes came almost a month after the AAP announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats in Delhi. The AAP shared the revised list of candidates from its X handle. Chauhan, a two-time AAP MLA from Narela, was dropped this time and Bhardwaj was named in the first list of candidates announced in December last year. Sources in the party claimed that the candidates were changed based on the ground reports from Narela and Hari Nagar seats. Chauhan, in a post on X, expressed gratitude towards the AAP's top leadership over the confidence they showed in him again. The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are going to tak

Kejriwal begins 'padyatra' from AAP office to file nomination for polls

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal began a 'padyatra' from the party office on Wednesday to file his nomination from New Delhi constituency for the upcoming assembly polls. The former chief minister, accompanied by his wife Sunita, offered prayers at Hanuman temple and Valmiki temple in the morning before heading to the New Delhi district magistrate's office, where he will file his nomination papers. "My family and I have taken the blessings of Lord Valmiki. After this, I will go to the Hanuman temple and take the blessings of Bajrangbali and file my nomination today. I have nothing to say about those who think that they can buy Delhiites with a pair of shoes," Kejriwal said after visiting the Valmiki temple. On reports about a threat to his life from a pro-Khalistani outfit, the AAP leader said God was with him. "Jako rakhe saiyan maar sake na koye (those protected by God cannot be killed by anyone).
